Door Safety & Security
Tilting & Sliding Patio Doors are no more vulnerable to burglars than any other patio door design. When fitted with multipoint locks and tempered safety glass they are as secure as you could expect a door of this nature to be.
There are safeguards to disallow the doors to be lifted of the tracks when closed.
The tilting function is limited by the hinges mechanism so that, even though the door panels can be quite heavy, they will not tilt inwards more than a pre-determined angle.
Doors cannot be opened or closed whilst tilted.
Living with tilting doors
But, before you go and buy this type of patio door it may be prudent to consider the interior of the room you want the doors to open into.
Tilting patio doors open inwards and therefore as they will take up some internal space when opened or when tilted.
You may also want to think about the fitting of curtains, vertical / horizontal blinds and drapes, as the door slide or tilt may interfere with them if you don’t fit them in a such a way as to accommodate the door functions.
As mentioned previously, this type of patio door tends to have a high threshold, so access for wheelchairs , elderly or infirm persons could be problematic.
