Bifold Doors

Bifold Doors – wide open space & Style

Bi Fold Doors are perfect for use as both an external or internal door. When fully opened they can give more than an incredible 90% clear opening, offering unspoiled views of the outside of your home or uncluttered access between rooms within the home.

Built onto sliding tracks which allow the panels to be easily maneuvered, the Bifold doors can be opened left, right, from the centre and “stacked” either inside or outside the door frame, giving you maximum design choice.

The latest designs in Bifold Doors use 2 different track systems:

  1. Top Hung, where the weight is borne by an overhead track
  2. Bottom Hung, where the weight is borne by an underfoot track

Both systems take advantage of super-smooth roller tracks & guides to ensure the door moves easily and safely.

Bottom hung tracks can be counter-sunk so that there is no raised threshold to trip over.

Features & Design Elements

a rated bi-fold doors in upvcThere are several design elements that can make your bi-fold doors so much more user friendly.

Features such as ground level thresholds for ease of access, top hung tracks & rollers to make the door easy to open & close, door seals which are “finger safe” (good for where children are around).

Not to forget to mention high levels of thermal efficiency which help to control both “solar gain” & heat loss.

It’s also important to consider personal safety with such a large amount of glass. This factor can been addressed by utilising toughened or tempered safety glazing. In terms of the glazing, toughened safety glass is a requirement where glass reaches floor level, and should be fitted as standard. There are options for laminated glazing if preferred.

A multi-point lock system and high quality hinges are essential to maintain household security.

Thermal efficiency can be determined by the BFRC label and in general, the higher the “U” value, the better the doors are at managing heat transfer (find out more at The British Fenestration Rating Council).
